The main aim of the job is to serve as an interface between the developers and management, a hands-on role involving ownership of development plans as well as supervisory responsibilities in order to ensure that company and clients’ software projects come in on time and within budget

 Key tasks & responsibilities

  •  To understand client requirements and how they translate into application features
  • To lead a team of development professionals, to set and monitor ‘Work Packages’ for new and existing applications, delegating tasks and responsibilities as appropriate
  • To design creative prototypes as per specifications
  • To write high quality source code in Java, Visual Basic, VB.NET and C#
  • To manage the writing of high quality source code for programs and to complete applications within deadlines
  • To anticipate and devise solutions to problems
  • To perform and monitor both unit and integration testing
  • To manage and conduct functional and non-functional testing
  • To troubleshoot and de-bug applications
  • To oversee, develop and update technical documents & handbooks to ensure they accurately represent application design and code
  • To evaluate the product’s software performance and to re-program, update and add new features
  • To ensure that all developers in his / her team adhere to the software quality standards agreed by the project or team as well as senior management
  • To carry out or assist in any other tasks, activities and projects appropriate to the job holder’s skills, knowledge, experience and aptitude as may be required from time to time or longer term in order to meet the needs of the business

The successful candidate will ideally have

  • A BSc/BA, MSc/MA or equivalent degree level qualification in computer science or a relevant field
  • Agile software development qualifications or demonstrably aware through on-the-job learning
  • Awareness of Prince2 or qualified
  • Knowledge of JIRA and / or application developer certification
  • The ability to program in at least one or two languages to include Java, C#, SQL or VB.NET – other programming skills / knowledge of interest are OpenEHR, AQL, MongoDB, JSON, UBUNTU
  • In-depth knowledge of programing for diverse operating systems and platforms using development tools
  • Proven experience as an application developer
  • Experience in designing and building applications
  • An excellent understanding of software design and programming principles
  • First class communication skills and a high level of general computer literacy
  • The ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • An interest and some experience in leading and developing a small team
  • Analytical thinking and problem-solving capability
  • Great attention to detail and time management skill
  • An enthusiastic, flexible, energetic and agile approach to his / her work
  • An interest in personal development and being part of a young business just about to embark on an exciting next stage of growth and opportunity

Location

Based in Brighton (Falmer) but regular travel to clients’ premises or other sites within the UK will be required

Hours of work

Core hours are Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm, but working additional days / hours, including weekends, may be required in order to meet project deadlines / the needs of the business

Salary

The main aim of the job is to understand, programme, develop and implement applications using Ooyala or other specified platforms and to create software that meets the requirements of the company and its clients

 Key tasks & responsibilities

  • To understand client requirements in order to establish a detailed program / Ooyala specification
  • To clarify what actions the solution is intended to perform
  • To breakdown the program specification in its simplest elements and translate its logic into a design within the Ooyala platform or specified programming language
  • To write high quality source code in Java, Visual Basic, VB.NET and C#
  • To write high quality source code for programs and to complete applications within deadlines
  • To devise possible solutions to anticipated problems
  • To conduct functional and non-functional testing
  • To troubleshoot and de-bug applications
  • To ensure technical documents & handbooks are updated and maintained to accurately represent application design and code
  • To update, repair, customise, modify and develop existing client software and generic applications
  • To consult manuals, periodicals and technical reports in order to learn new ways to develop programs and to maintain and enhance existing skills and knowledge
  • To carry out or assist in any other tasks, activities and projects appropriate to the job holder’s skills, knowledge, experience and aptitude as may be required from time to time or longer term in order to meet the needs of the business

The successful candidate will ideally have

  • Proven experience in or with Digital Asset Management systems
  • Experience in designing and building applications
  • The ability to program in at least one or two languages to include Java, C#, SQL or VB.NET

  • Knowledge of JIRA and / or application developer certification
  • Knowledge and / or experience of Agile software development
  • An excellent understanding of software design and programming principles
